Happy November and Early Thanksgiving, Guys!
I went home to celebrate early and get some time in the blind.
It was a great weekend! Along with the family time, myself and Jameson (my husband) both got a nice deer. I took this old guy down with a .300 Win Mag rifle, Sunday morning just past 7:30 a.m.
I will tell you, I have shot five nice deer in my life, and I still get the shakes every time. I was able to sit in the blind with my dad to take this guy—I will never get tired of hunting with my dad. It is so fun.
After I shot, he dropped immediately, which is a great feeling. No question about whether he was down.
We took him to Broken O’s Processing in Comanche to fill the freezer. We did standard processing, which will give us backstrap, steaks, and a roast. We also added 20 lbs of German jalapeño and cheese sausage and 5 lbs of snack sticks. They will use what is normally ground up to make this. It’s unlikely we’ll have a lot of extra, but anything left over will be packed as ground venison. Our total was $295.
I’m also having them clean the skull for a European mount, which was $125. I am running out of room in my house for deer, so I need ideas on how to display a lot of them.
